What is Ascension?

Ascension is the process of developing Essence - inner power that grants supernatural abilities. This is accomplished through studying rare Grimoires, ancient texts that describe the methods of transcending mortal limits.

Rarity

Ascension is rare. Most characters will remain Mundane their entire existence. Finding a Grimoire is a major event that changes everything about how you play.

Sources of Grimoires

• Rare loot from powerful enemies
• Faction rewards for significant service
• Hidden locations (ancient ruins, forgotten libraries)
• Trading with other ascended beings

Progression Methods

• Meditation - Time investment in a safe location
• Focus techniques - Accelerated progress during combat

The Danger

Severe injuries can shatter your ascension, causing you to lose tiers and potentially start over. High ascension also makes you a target - everyone wants Grimoires, and everyone fears high-tier ascended beings.
