Skill-By-Doing Progression
Skills improve through use, not experience points.
The Philosophy
JiJinia has no abstract experience points. No "level up" moments. Instead, skills improve gradually and continuously based on how you play. This creates a natural feedback loop where your character gets better at what they actually do.
Skill Progression Examples
| Action | Skill Improved |
|---|---|
| Swing swords | Sword skill |
| Get hit | Toughness |
| Run around | Athletics |
| Sneak past enemies | Stealth |
| Block attacks | Block skill |
| Dodge attacks | Evasion |
| Use bows | Archery |
Design Benefits
- Natural progression - Your character develops based on your playstyle
- No grinding - You improve by playing, not by seeking XP
- Meaningful choices - Specializing in one weapon means less practice with others
- Emergent builds - Your character's skills tell the story of how you played
Skill Decay
Skills you don't use will slowly decay over time, encouraging continued practice and preventing characters from being masters of everything.
